ecoworks implements serial renovation of 7-9 storey buildings for the first time

April 18, 2024, Berlin - ecoworks GmbH, market leader for serial energy-efficient renovation in Germany, is bringing high-storey residential buildings into serial implementation. In addition to two to four-story buildings with the simplest typology, the company is now also renovating residential buildings with up to nine floors. It is also now possible to add several storeys to existing buildings in order to enable affordable housing densification in attractive locations.

“We are pleased that serial renovation can transform more and more building types and thus a much larger part of the building stock in a climate-neutral way,” comments Emanuel Heisenberg, CEO and founder of ecoworks. “We have many inquiries from housing companies in major cities who want to renovate higher storey buildings. With the help of industrially pre-assembled room elements, we can also create affordable, high-quality living space in metropolitan areas through densification. This is because our solution can increase living space by up to 80 percent and increase the value of the building by more than 100 percent. ”

ecoworks is currently planning and renovating 17 projects with numerous building types throughout Germany. Automation and prefabrication can drastically reduce the costs of climate-neutral refurbishment. By expanding its product portfolio, ecoworks is making numerous new projects possible, with buildings between five and nine floors.

Around 50 percent of the 315 million residential units in Europe have an energy efficiency class of E or worse. The renovation of these buildings requires investments of several trillion euros by 2030 in the EU alone. Residential buildings with poor energy efficiency are particularly burdened by high energy prices and stricter global regulation of emissions from buildings. In addition, they are increasingly losing value and thus becoming “stranded assets.”

ecoworks has developed an automated solution with which CO2-Emissions in the building sector can be reduced quickly and efficiently. With the help of an industrially preproduced building envelope, apartment buildings are converted to a net-zero standard within a few weeks. The company has over 100 employees and works with leading partners such as Brüninghoff and the Oikos Group (Bien Zenker, Hanse Haus, Living Haus).
